The Pure Lotus Hospice
of Compassion was established in
2001 to provide in-patient care for
sufferers of terminal cancer who
have limited financial means for
medical treatment, unable to receive
adequate care at home and or
need emotional support and spiritual
guidance. It has since expanded its
scope of assistance to AIDS
sufferers and HIV infected and
affected persons through an outreach
program which started in 2004.
The
hospice is administered by founder,
the Venerable Lyan Shih assisted by
a committee of capable and
committed volunteers from various fields
of expertise, most of whom were
also participants in the establishment
of the hospice.
The
initial acquisition of premises furniture
and fittings, operating equipments and
other necessary expenditure in the
set-up of the hospice were funded
by generous public donations and so
are the daily operating expenses.
The press and other charitable
organisations played an important role
in mobilizing the fund-raising process.
Venerable
Lyan Shih who was a nurse
tutor by profession, also manages
the overall operations of the
hospice. An experienced team of
nursing personnel and supporting staff
headed by a Medical Director takes
care of the patients at the
hospice which has a bed-capacity of
16. Efforts from regular volunteers
to various parts of the operations
such as palliative care, counselling
and fund-raising to pay for running
expenses of the hospice are of
utmost importance to the organisation .
